Secret filming PATP private lives

Album demos going quite well. We are starting to get really excited about recording proper. Today we had a serious discussion about what we want to call the album but at the moment it looks like it's gonna be called little death.

Artwork may involve me getting a tattoo...

Pete Dog got this new computer what makes videos. Here's one I've done covertly just for you.

The top of my Head

Our blog has 26 followers. There is a special prize for whoever is follower no. 27. I haven't decided what the prize is yet. It might be quite underwhelming. I feel we need some more followers though. I'm not even sure what it means to follow a blog. I am listening to Augustus Pablo in my bedroom and its sounding sweeeet. I have high ceilings which lend a certain sonic je ne sais quoi as the Germans say. Little Pete is coming to Hackney tomorrow where Pete Dog and I live to add his lovely voice noises to our latest demos, of which there are 16 so far.

Whittling them down into a concise 12/13/14/acceptable album length is going to be a really tough and unpleasant job. We love them all, see. But i guess the ones that don't go on will make great B sides/special rarities! I've included some random photographs from fuck knows when to liven up this bla bla bla from the top of my head. The one above is I think from an acoustic set that me and pete did once at the lock tavern years ago. Pete is holding some kind of African shakey percussion instrument that smelled of poo. We got paid 1oo quid and got really drunk.

The other photos are from a gig we played in our Pyjamas at the Rising sun in Reading. A long long time ago. It was one of my favourite shows, - I can't recommend performing in PJs highly enough, it's very liberating and in the summer months it feels so nice and airy.

(above) when Pete perspires, his spectacles are prone to slipping from his face leading to lack of clear vision of microphone, crowd and guitar, so the move that you see him performing here is the 'mid chord glasses push on' which many other glasses wearing performers including Bono and Graham Coxon have tried to immitate but never to the same effect as Pete.

One for the ladies. Jonny in Cowskin print pyjama bottoms.

back soon.

Buona bloody Sera

We have just got back from Italy where we did a handful of very fun shows. Via an Italian promoter who likes us, we get to go to Italy a couple of times a year and always have a right hoot. Admitedly, we look forward to the food and fiesta as much as the gigs - but the gigs are great. The first one we played was on the beach in Ravenna, and the last was at a little festival nestled in a beautiful valley.
At the moment my computer is dying on me and i can't seem to do anything with video... but here is a youtube clip I found of knots.

Our friend Caterina took some great photos which I'm going to try and get her to send so I can put them up too. In the mean time, here is me post mangiare.

Album II - latest news

We are going to record our next record with Mr. Gareth Parton, who also worked with us on our debut album Little Death. We all feel really comfortable working together, and had a real good time together recording the first time round. It's probably fair to say that we have changed as a band, and Gareth probably has as a producer, so I doubt that album II is going to sound like the first. But it will be frikin good, of course.

from L-R, Dave t, Bobby August, Little Pete, Me, Gareth, Jonny.

We don't know where we're gonna record yet but we're hoping to start in July.

Can't wait.

P_A_T_P_@_the_ ALBANY

In the not too distant past, we played a show at the Albany Theatre in Deptford - not an area normally associated with live music, but it's a great venue. Hopefully we'll get to go back there soon.

webpeteandthepirates-(15-of-20) by The Polstar*.

The lobby was full of people selling cakes and jewellery and the like, which was an interesting change from your average gig. The excellent photographs are by polstar.

Pete and the Pirates by The Polstar*.

We played a few of the songs that will potentially be going on the new album- we're constantly changing our minds about which will make the final list. New ones keep emerging all the time too so the list fluctuates massively, plus there's 5 different opinions about it.
So at the bottom are 3 songs from the evening which have been given for us to use- Motorbike is one of the new ones. The others you might know from Little Death.
Thanks to everyone who came to see us play.

Songs:

Lost in the Woods

Motorbike

Eyes Like Tar

Hope you enjoy. Back soon.

3 days in

Why, hello!

We are three days into the coxon tour, and it's going good. The good things about the tour are this:

Graham is nice
We have beds in our van
I've started drinking beer again
I've started smoking again
Pete and Jonny both have birthdays on whilst on tour
We get to play our fun new songs

some of the bad things:

The van has a top speed of 55 mph
It's starting to smell funny
We are going to kill each other

most of the dates have sold out (cos we're playing, obviously) but come see us at one of them if you can. The venues are intimate and 'vibey' ha ha, and we've played most of them before, so it's good to go back. We're especially looking forward to the Cluny in Newcastle.

God protect us, see you soon.

WHAT IS OCCURRING

On thursday we are going to set sail again on a small 10 date tour with a man called Graham Coxon who played in band you may have heard of called blur. We're vey vey happy to be supporting him for these shows.
Look out for a cranky old hippy bus.... that's what we're gonna be travelling in. Sound like fun fun fun. Apparently it's all lined with red fur. Sexy.

We are trying to whittle down a large list of songs at the moment into something that will resemble an album. Life in a band seems to go in cycles... writing, recording, touring. I love it all, and the past couple of months have been really good for developing these new songs. Lot's of hard work and trying to get some perspective. We're all pretty anxious to get into the studio now which should be happing in a couple of months. Don't know where or who with yet.

For anyone who actually reads this blog, apologies for the crapness and sporadic nature of the posts.... they are going to get bigger and better. Maybe.
